Hughesair (Inflection Point)

Retired physician and air taxi operator, science writer and part time assistant professor, these editorials cover a wide range of topics. Mostly non political, mostly true, I write more from a lifetime of experience and from research, more science than convention. Subjects cover medicine, Alaska aviation, economics, technology and an occasional book review. Globalization or Democracy documents the historical roots of Oligarchy, the road to colonialism and tyranny

X-Ray Conference

Last week I attended X-Ray conference at the local hospital. It was a bit more exciting than the Rotary Club luncheons but not much. For a small hospital this conference is a stand out. It has been quite a while since I attended, however, not since I was on the hospital board some three years ago. What struck me was the preponderance of MRI and CAT scan images. In fact there was only one plain film for the entire hour and a half of case presentations. One case in particular involved Gout, hip pain and an emergency MRI. I thought of the good old days, "Take two colchicine and call me Monday."
