Hughesair (Inflection Point)

Retired physician and air taxi operator, science writer and part time assistant professor, these editorials cover a wide range of topics. Mostly non political, mostly true, I write more from a lifetime of experience and from research, more science than convention. Subjects cover medicine, Alaska aviation, economics, technology and an occasional book review. Globalization or Democracy documents the historical roots of Oligarchy, the road to colonialism and tyranny

Hybrid Electric

Well, that did it, we bought the '06 Civic Honda hybrid. There is suppose to be a tax credit, although, no one seems to know anything about it. I fly to Anchorage tomorrow to pick up the car. Aren't zero interest credit cards great? I haven't bought a car in 12 years, so there is a bit of excitement. I can't wait to see the 51 mpg, and the '06 has the ABS and EBD, electronic braking distribution. I hope that will handel West Hill and my driveway. The drive home, Turnagain Arm, two mountain passes and the length of the Kenai Peninsula in mid winter should give us an adequate road test. I drove this car in Wisconsin, snow, and I think it has excellent handling. We'll see.
