Hughesair (Inflection Point)

Retired physician and air taxi operator, science writer and part time assistant professor, these editorials cover a wide range of topics. Mostly non political, mostly true, I write more from a lifetime of experience and from research, more science than convention. Subjects cover medicine, Alaska aviation, economics, technology and an occasional book review. Globalization or Democracy documents the historical roots of Oligarchy, the road to colonialism and tyranny

The Library

A shining beacon of information in an obstipated media of engineered scarcity, the Alaska Libraries have negotiated Internet sources for journals, magazines, transcripts, encyclopedias and test preparation material.

You must be an Alaska resident. The Alaska portal is: http://sled.alaska.edu/databases alternatively, www.uaf.edu/library/dfa/ The Homer library: http://library.ci.homer.ak.us/ The ID and password for EBSCO: ebsco825 iaminak. For Electric Library use: elib4u49 iaminak. The Learn-A-Test links require a 14 digit ID starting with 99801, easy to remember, add 2 zeros and a phone number. You will be asked to initiate a password as well.

Of some considerable value to me is the free access to the National Library of Medicine and Clinical Pharmacology. Information should be free! No longer should guilds hold secret the information of their profession. Arguably, open source, collaborative effort yields greater benefit for all including the profession.
