Hughesair (Inflection Point)

Retired physician and air taxi operator, science writer and part time assistant professor, these editorials cover a wide range of topics. Mostly non political, mostly true, I write more from a lifetime of experience and from research, more science than convention. Subjects cover medicine, Alaska aviation, economics, technology and an occasional book review. Globalization or Democracy documents the historical roots of Oligarchy, the road to colonialism and tyranny

Sarah Palin

The only one of the four major players with executive experience, Governor Palin may be the best of the four, arguably the toughest.

Conservative is not so bad a thing once you eliminate: Daddy Warbucks, monopolies, Neo-conservatives, the military industrial complex, hidden tax under the guise of privatization, a useless war, the civilian Neanderthals in the Pentagon, over taxation of small business and the middle class favoring big business and the wealthy, the DMCA (Digital millennium copyright act), an oil-headed economy, global warming, privatization of vital public infrastructure, auctioning EM spectrum as if it were private property, intrusion into the bedroom and religion, coal and --- uh, the present administration. In fact the elimination of all of the above might be considered the conservative thing to do.

And, uh Senator McCaine's health plan will not work, but then again neither will Senator Obama's. It would be nice if we were not the 16th (Some rank us 8th) ranking health system among developed nations by several measures.

Who has a true sens of Science and Technology and the ability to lead us to a clean sustainable energy policy, a quantum leap beyond fossil fuel --- into cosmic, proton, fusion and beyond? Who can bring technology, particle physics and jobs back to our shores?

At least Sarah is an honest pragmatist out for the common good. Hopefully all four will be so.
