Retired physician and air taxi operator, science writer and part time assistant professor, these editorials cover a wide range of topics. Mostly non political, mostly true, I write more from a lifetime of experience and from research, more science than convention. Subjects cover medicine, Alaska aviation, economics, technology and an occasional book review. Globalization or Democracy documents the historical roots of Oligarchy, the road to colonialism and tyranny

Sexual Dysphoria

In a small Alaska fishing village, a group of parents petitioned the library to remove 5 books from the children’s section. The books reportedly contained LBGTQ and trans surgery details that parents did not want their young children exposed to. The librarian listened to the argument, and made the decision to continue the 5 books in the children’s section. A day or two later 6 prominent local citizens, one of whom has a law degree, celebrated the library’s decision to override the objection and continue the books in the children’s section as if an act of freedom.

While book burning has no place in a free society, books that would be appropriate even desirable in an adult library may be something else in a children’s liberty.
