Taepodong-2

North Korea Test-Fires Several Missiles - New York Times

From an avowed conspiritist, the description of Taepodong-2's failure a minute after liftoff and less than excited response from the Whitehouse suggests that we zapped it with our high powered laser mounted in a 747 out of Japan and aren't talking. Furthermore, I'd bet North Korea was concerned that we would try such an intercept so they fired multiple SCUD missiles at the same time to confound our interception. I would take this conjecture a stage further, suggesting that the whole thing was orchestrated by China to test our missile defense capability. If such were the case, our star wars defense initiative passed the test! (Your Queen with the King's Bishop) But this is far from end game. The race to recover the broken missile for forensics and analysis might be interesting.
