Hughesair (Inflection Point)

Retired physician and air taxi operator, science writer and part time assistant professor, these editorials cover a wide range of topics. Mostly non political, mostly true, I write more from a lifetime of experience and from research, more science than convention. Subjects cover medicine, Alaska aviation, economics, technology and an occasional book review. Globalization or Democracy documents the historical roots of Oligarchy, the road to colonialism and tyranny

Quantum entanglement

Access : : Nature

News and views Nature 7206 p831, "The Speed of Instantly" by Terence G. Rudolph dep. physics Imperial College.
If you grasp only one brain twister this year this may be the one. Salart et al conduct an experiment testing the speed or delay if any between entangled photon pairs, 18 km apart in Satigny and Jussy, Switzerland. The experiment implies a near infinite speed of quantum information between one paired entangled particle and the other. Furthermore, there appears no loss of strength with distance. The implications for communication and computing seem endless. The application of entanglement with quantum computing suggests a whole new paradigm for information, communication and computing.
