Hughesair (Inflection Point)

Retired physician and air taxi operator, science writer and part time assistant professor, these editorials cover a wide range of topics. Mostly non political, mostly true, I write more from a lifetime of experience and from research, more science than convention. Subjects cover medicine, Alaska aviation, economics, technology and an occasional book review. Globalization or Democracy documents the historical roots of Oligarchy, the road to colonialism and tyranny

4WD Hybrid

2010 308 Peugeot Hybrid-4: 57.3 mpg, four wheel drive, 200 hp, nice interior in an attractive cross over, what's not to like? Well the diesel electrics may be one up with 40 miles on all electric. That has got to be the car of the future in a comfortable size and configuration. Jeep may do it too for Chrysler sometime later in 2010. But is there service for this French beauty in Anchorage? -- Not in the phonebook. Some think that it is too cold up here for an electric, but not so. Batteries like it cold and with this paradigm shift, how far away can high temperature super conductors be for both motor and wiring. "Some like it cold." The Prius and Honda Hybrids do just fine in Fairbanks. This Peugeot looks ready for the Milano Milino across the mountains.
