Hughesair (Inflection Point)

Retired physician and air taxi operator, science writer and part time assistant professor, these editorials cover a wide range of topics. Mostly non political, mostly true, I write more from a lifetime of experience and from research, more science than convention. Subjects cover medicine, Alaska aviation, economics, technology and an occasional book review. Globalization or Democracy documents the historical roots of Oligarchy, the road to colonialism and tyranny

Electric Aircraft

Sky Spark in Italy test flys an Alpi Pioneer 300 with a 75 kw motor in place of the standard internal combustion engine. It flew 155 mph with an endurance of 30 minutes on lithium ion batteries. This was a test flight only, and they will replace the lithium batteries with hydrogen full cells. Sky Spark expects a performance of 186 mph, 2 hours and, hopefully, a 372 mi range.
