Hughesair (Inflection Point)

Retired physician and air taxi operator, science writer and part time assistant professor, these editorials cover a wide range of topics. Mostly non political, mostly true, I write more from a lifetime of experience and from research, more science than convention. Subjects cover medicine, Alaska aviation, economics, technology and an occasional book review. Globalization or Democracy documents the historical roots of Oligarchy, the road to colonialism and tyranny

Trent Steelman, Army-Navy 2012

The Army quarterback should have been named MVP for the game if not for the play of the game with his stand up touchdown. Sadly, however, the cameraman followed the anguished quarterback with endless closeups of his grief -- an embarrassment to all who watched, not for Trent, but for the prurient behavior of the cameraman.

Not so different from the debacle caused by Mel Greig and Michael Christian in Australia -- who's prank with Kate Middleton caused the suicide of a dedicated nurse, Jacintha Saldanha -- this one had the potential to cause real harm with no redeeming public value. The cameraman obviously knows little of sports let alone sportsmanship.

The DJs were royally chastised. The same should apply to the cameraman, who's name I cannot find. His or her unseemly focus on the burden of one man might very well have caused a similar outcome if not sully an Army career. But should have doesn't play.
