Google Goes to Washington
GOOG will have its lobbyists take up issue with any legislation that opposes the growth of the internet and internet related applications. Several key issues now include, VOIP providers clashing with DSL providers and opposition from publishers over GOOG's book scanning initiative.” theflyonthewall
At least for now Google goes to Washington as a Force for good. It takes a goliath to counter the valorizations, lobbying and obfuscations of the communication - media cartels and monopolies. If the FTC won’t exercise its duty and punish the monopolies maybe capitalism’s latest ingénue, GOOG, can advance the cause of the Internet, free speech, technology and free information. Our economic future may depend on Google’ s success.
Indeed, the most effective way politically for a centrist and a cynic to exercise political influence may be to buy GOOG stock. The party-line politicians on both sides of the isle are on the dole, and Google has got the dough. What a pleasure it would be, to see the forces of the Dark Side on the run.
If you read these rants at all, you must know that GOOG is attempting to bring Wi-Fi to the whole country. The effect of Google’ s intent will be to bring greater bandwidth cheaply through the last mile and once and for all break the strangle hold the local phone companies hold on Internet access. Furthermore, Google is trying to index and give you access to the libraries of the world. Ah, but the motion-picture, publishing, media and music folks and their boughten politicians would burn Alexandria to protect their monopolies.
The politicians of the world might pay attention to the growing power of a younger generation of technology minded, information oriented voters who are the driving Force of the information revolution. Vox populi, vox dei.
