Hughesair (Inflection Point)

Retired physician and air taxi operator, science writer and part time assistant professor, these editorials cover a wide range of topics. Mostly non political, mostly true, I write more from a lifetime of experience and from research, more science than convention. Subjects cover medicine, Alaska aviation, economics, technology and an occasional book review. Globalization or Democracy documents the historical roots of Oligarchy, the road to colonialism and tyranny

Intel announces an 8 core chip by 2011

Intel announces an 80 core CPU by 2011. That is more than doubling every year. Meanwhile, where is bandwidth? Ten years of DSL, the bandwidth has yet to double, and the price remains the same. As long as the phone company tries to maximize profits by suppressing technology, the 80 CPU chip will be limited to desk activity and CAD design. What is worse, this sanctioned, politicized, scarcity engineering holds back productivity and thus the economy. --- and the same for the politicians who support this travesty.
