Hughesair (Inflection Point)

Retired physician and air taxi operator, science writer and part time assistant professor, these editorials cover a wide range of topics. Mostly non political, mostly true, I write more from a lifetime of experience and from research, more science than convention. Subjects cover medicine, Alaska aviation, economics, technology and an occasional book review. Globalization or Democracy documents the historical roots of Oligarchy, the road to colonialism and tyranny

Small Business Tax

I don't know the history, but the small business corporate tax for earnings between $100,000 and $335,000 is a whooping 39%. Above 335 thousand the rate drops to 34%. Big business with earnings above 18.33 million pay only 35%. This is bizarre. I would guess the big corporations pay bonuses so they do not need to pay much corporate tax. Furthermore, I bet the big corporation lobbyists make sure that the tax law punishes the competition from smaller innovative companies. Small business cannot grow without working capital, and they can only grow working capital through earnings -- directly or indirectly. Somebody is lying to us. Did the tax cuts for the wealthy actually raise the small business corporate tax?
