Hughesair (Inflection Point)

Retired physician and air taxi operator, science writer and part time assistant professor, these editorials cover a wide range of topics. Mostly non political, mostly true, I write more from a lifetime of experience and from research, more science than convention. Subjects cover medicine, Alaska aviation, economics, technology and an occasional book review. Globalization or Democracy documents the historical roots of Oligarchy, the road to colonialism and tyranny

Global Warming

Alaska shows early signs of climate change. So much is coastline and mountain and we watch the glaciers receding year by year. If the report in yesterdays Guardian brings any clarity to the question then we had better forget sea walls. The Guardian

When in Barrow last fall, the ice pack had receded 25 miles off shore. It altered the behavior of Polar Bears. We do not see signs of higher sea level but the glaciers have melted and pulled back miles in some cases. The Arctic ice pack will not affect sea level but the Antarctic and Greenland glaciers will. --- It is an interesting question. We have had two months of California weather. Are you ready for Alaska? We can call it Pumice Valley.
