Hughesair (Inflection Point)

Retired physician and air taxi operator, science writer and part time assistant professor, these editorials cover a wide range of topics. Mostly non political, mostly true, I write more from a lifetime of experience and from research, more science than convention. Subjects cover medicine, Alaska aviation, economics, technology and an occasional book review. Globalization or Democracy documents the historical roots of Oligarchy, the road to colonialism and tyranny

Information Revolution

The war with the minions of the Dark Side, the stilted old sanctioned monopolies of the Industrial Age, progresses with about the same level of success as the war in Iraq.

Today’s announcement of a 4th quarter decline in productivity of 0.5% should come as no surprise. Government views productivity as a long-term necessity for a healthy economy. I would argue that it’s the other way around. We feel the loss of productivity in our gut, some for lack of food, some from worry and others with bleeding ulcers. We all feel, rather immediately, the lack of confidence.

As long as government supports big business at the expense of innovative competitive small business, the results are likely to be more of the same.
