Hughesair (Inflection Point)

Retired physician and air taxi operator, science writer and part time assistant professor, these editorials cover a wide range of topics. Mostly non political, mostly true, I write more from a lifetime of experience and from research, more science than convention. Subjects cover medicine, Alaska aviation, economics, technology and an occasional book review. Globalization or Democracy documents the historical roots of Oligarchy, the road to colonialism and tyranny

Beluga Whales of the Cook Inlet

"Help Save the last 300 Cook Inlet Beluga Whales!
Did you know that the Cook Inlet Beluga is a species genetically all of it’s own?

(We didn’t until recently)
The Cook Inlet Beluga (Delphinapterus leucas) is genetically and geographically isolated from the other four populations around Alaska. The small population of Cook Inlet Belugas occupy the small-restricted body of water of the Cook Inlet, year round. For those of us that live along the Inlet -- It is our own whale, it is here year round. "
