Motorola boosts TV tech with Terayon buy | CNET News.com

By Marguerite Reardon Staff Writer, CNET News.com -->“Motorola said Monday that it will pay $140 million in cash to buy Terayon Communication Systems, a supplier of digital television software and equipment.
Motorola will acquire all of the outstanding shares of Terayon's common stock for $1.80 per share in cash.
Terayon's equipment is used by cable, satellite and phone companies offering TV service to help manage their video networks. It optimizes the use of bandwidth and allows video to be delivered based upon the regional and local interest of viewers. Specifically, the Terayon products will help service providers insert more local advertising into their video content. The ability to tailor advertising to a given customer population could open new revenue streams for these service providers.”
It is past time someone picked up the technology of this high tech company, lost from the days of the bubble. Terayon’s cable technology, still largely marginalized and ignored, pipes CDMA over the disjointed and raged cable networks with much greater band width. The spread spectrum paradigm of CDMA will Zeus out the interference from microwaves, drill pres and blenders as well as leap loose connections and multiple branchings. More than the economic advantage of local advertising, the wider distribution of this superior digital transmission technology advances the cause of low cost information and communications through out the industry, and advances the cause of the Information Age. --- Good on you Motorola!
