Hughesair (Inflection Point)

Retired physician and air taxi operator, science writer and part time assistant professor, these editorials cover a wide range of topics. Mostly non political, mostly true, I write more from a lifetime of experience and from research, more science than convention. Subjects cover medicine, Alaska aviation, economics, technology and an occasional book review. Globalization or Democracy documents the historical roots of Oligarchy, the road to colonialism and tyranny

Parkinson's Disease

Lancet 369 (2007) Matthew During and colleagues at Ohio State University have delivered DNA material, a gene enhancing production of glutamic acid decarboxylase into a target area of the patient's brain. The genetic material was carried by a virus thus infusing the DNA into the patient's cells. By injecting only one side of the brain the researchers demonstrated the improved motor function as compaired to the other side.

Hopefully the volunteers had the choice of treating the other side too. One would not want to walk in circles.
