Annals of National Security: The Iran Plans: The New Yorker
This essay by no less than Seymour Hersh, tells a chilling tale of civilian DOD gone amok. It supports the contention that the advent of Secretary of Defence undermines our Constitution's provision that the President and only the President act as commander and chief -- and not delegate the duty without the responsibility to other civilians. To quote myself, that delegation of power to civilians, untrained in military history, science and restraint, is like giving children a loaded gun. The Pentagon is a cold war relic. Fighting terrorists with nuclear weapons, sort of begs the question, does it not?
