Hughesair (Inflection Point)

Retired physician and air taxi operator, science writer and part time assistant professor, these editorials cover a wide range of topics. Mostly non political, mostly true, I write more from a lifetime of experience and from research, more science than convention. Subjects cover medicine, Alaska aviation, economics, technology and an occasional book review. Globalization or Democracy documents the historical roots of Oligarchy, the road to colonialism and tyranny

Electric Grid

Roling Blackouts don't cut it. Power leaks from the high cables largely due to low voltage, old misconnected, scattered and un-coordinated networks. Engineers plan a super grid with more efficient high energy. Connecting disparent local networks and delivering from the energy rich Southwest to the energy starved Northeast will go a long way to decrease cost and increase available energy. For greater efficiency and for greater distances engineers even propose DC. Our economy runs on cheap energy; let's face it.

Why not burry the cable under a new Inter State highway system. Lay the cables in the center of the lane. Cars can track the cable as a steering device, and charge the car's batteries by induction as the car races along.

Such an efficient high speed pathway might serve to reduce commutiter air travel frustration, build out the grid and speed up ground travel.
